What are passkeys?
Passkeys are a modern way to sign in without typing a password. Instead, you authenticate using something built into your device — your fingerprint, face scan, or screen lock PIN. The technology is based on the FIDO2/WebAuthn standard, supported by Apple, Google, and Microsoft.
When you register a passkey, a unique cryptographic key pair is created. The private key stays securely on your device (protected by your biometrics), and only the public key is stored on LeyApp's servers. This means there's no password to steal, phish, or leak.
Why passkeys are more secure than passwords
Passkeys can't be phished — they only work on the real LeyApp website, not on fake lookalike sites. They can't be guessed or brute-forced, and they're never transmitted over the network. Each passkey is unique to LeyApp, so a breach at another service can never affect your LeyApp account.
Supported devices
- iPhone / iPad — Face ID or Touch ID (iOS 16+)
- Android — Fingerprint or face unlock (Android 9+)
- Mac — Touch ID or password (macOS Ventura+)
- Windows — Windows Hello: face, fingerprint, or PIN (Windows 10+)
- Hardware security keys — YubiKey, Google Titan Key, or any FIDO2 USB/NFC key
How to set up a passkey on LeyApp
- Go to Settings, expand Security, and select Passkeys
- Click 'Add a passkey' and optionally give it a name (e.g. 'MacBook Pro' or 'iPhone')
- Your browser will prompt you to authenticate with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN
- Once verified, your passkey is registered and ready to use on your next login
Managing multiple passkeys
You can register up to 10 passkeys on your LeyApp account — one for each device you use. For example, you might have a passkey on your work laptop, your phone, and your home computer. You can remove any passkey at any time from the Settings page.
Frequently asked questions
What if I lose my device? Your passkey is tied to that specific device, so it can't be used by anyone else. You can still sign in with your password, another passkey, or a social login (Google, Apple, Microsoft). Then remove the lost device's passkey from Settings.
Can I use passkeys on multiple devices? Yes! Register a passkey on each device you use. Some platforms (like Apple iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager) can also sync passkeys across your devices automatically.
Do I still need a password? Yes, your password remains as a fallback. Passkeys are an additional, faster way to sign in — they don't replace your password entirely.
Register passkeys on at least two devices so you always have a backup way to sign in without a password.
