Sponsored bookings — for beneficiaries
How a sponsor-paid consultation works, what your sponsor can see, and how to revoke access.

What is a sponsored consultation?
A sponsor (an NGO, employer, family member, or organization) pays for your legal consultation on LeyApp. You still work directly with the lawyer — the sponsor only handles payment and sees limited metadata about the booking.
You stay in control of which lawyer you see, what you talk about, and whether the sponsor sees any progress updates.
You are the client in every legal sense. The lawyer owes you the duty of care, not the sponsor. Confidential information stays between you and the lawyer.
Receiving a sponsorship invitation
When a sponsor invites you, you receive an email with a summary: who is sponsoring, the budget, the permitted scope (e.g. "immigration matters only"), and which data they will be allowed to see. Accept or decline from the invitation page.
Before accepting, review
- Who the sponsor is and why they are sponsoring you.
- What scope the sponsorship covers (practice area, matter type).
- The budget and whether it is a cap, a number of consultations, or unlimited.
- What the sponsor will see about each booking (status only, or status + progress notes).
- The expiry date of the sponsorship — after that date, new bookings require your own payment.
Permissions you set
You decide what the sponsor can see about your bookings. Three settings:
- Lawyer selection — you pick the lawyer or the sponsor picks from an approved list.
- Progress visibility — none, status-only, or status + lawyer notes. Chat content is never shared.
- Chat access — the sponsor never sees chat. This cannot be changed.
You can change permissions at any time from Settings → Sponsorships. New settings apply to the next status change, not retroactively.
Declining a sponsorship
If you decline, the sponsor is notified that the invitation was refused — no reason is shared. You can still book consultations yourself and pay directly.
Declining is final: to be sponsored by the same party again, they must send a new invitation.
Revoking an active sponsorship
You can revoke an active sponsorship at any time from Settings → Sponsorships → Revoke. Active bookings already paid for continue normally; new bookings after revocation require your own payment.
Revoking does not delete past bookings or chat history — it only stops new sponsored bookings.
Revoking is immediate. If you are mid-case with a lawyer, talk to them first so they can plan a handover or agree on a payment path for upcoming sessions.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time via Settings → Privacy. GDPR rights apply regardless of the sponsorship.
Withdrawing consent from the sponsor is independent from withdrawing consent from LeyApp — you can do either without affecting the other.
