Becoming a firm means creating an organisation and becoming its **owner**. Your bookings, reviews, calendar and bar verification stay exactly where they are. ## What a firm adds on top of your lawyer profile A firm is a shared layer on top of individual lawyer profiles. It has its own name, branding, public page (/firm/your-firm), member list, shared policies and, once verified, a trusted badge. Every lawyer inside it keeps their own colegiado verification, fees and availability. You can be the only member of your own firm. Many solo practitioners create one simply to publish under a firm name, to get the firm badge in search results, or to prepare for hiring colleagues later. ## The whole journey at a glance 1. Enable **Law Firm Management** under Settings → Feature previews (skip this if you chose "I work at a firm" when you registered). 2. Open **My Firm** in the dashboard sidebar and click **Create or Join a Firm**. 3. Complete the claim wizard: confirm your colegiado, choose *Create a new firm*, search for the name, fill in the details. 4. You are now the owner. Invite colleagues, set branding and policies straight away. 5. Verify the firm (CIF/NIF, firm-domain email, bar letter) to unlock the public badge, widgets and SSO. ## Step 1 — Enable Firm accounts Firm accounts are a feature preview. Go to **Settings → Feature previews**, find the **Law Firm Management** card and click **Enable**. You will be asked to accept the firm beta terms once. As soon as you accept, a new **My Firm** entry appears in your dashboard sidebar. If you selected "I work at a firm" during registration, this switch is already on. If you ever open the My Firm page and land on Feature previews instead, it simply means the switch is still off. ## Step 2 — Open My Firm and start the wizard Click **My Firm** in the sidebar. Because you do not belong to a firm yet, the page shows a single card: **Create or Join a Firm**. Click its button to open the claim wizard at /dashboard/firm/claim. The wizard has four short steps and you can go back at any point. ## Step 3 — Confirm your bar registration The first wizard step shows the bar association and colegiado number from your lawyer profile. Check that both are correct and click **Continue**. Only accounts with a lawyer profile can create firms — this is what keeps firm ownership tied to a real, registered lawyer. If the wizard says your colegiado number is missing, click **Complete profile**: it takes you to Settings → Practice, where you can add your bar membership. Come back to the wizard afterwards. ## Step 4 — Choose "Create a new firm" The wizard now asks whether you want to **create** a new firm or **join** an existing one with an invite code. To become a firm yourself, choose *Create a new firm*. (If a colleague already registered your firm, ask them for an 8-character invite code and choose *Join an existing firm* instead — see "Joining a firm".) ## Step 5 — Search before you create Type the name of your firm. LeyApp searches both its directory of Spanish law firms and firms already registered on the platform, so you never create a duplicate by accident. There are three possible outcomes: - **No match** — click **Create new firm** to continue to the details form. This is the normal path for a solo lawyer starting a firm. - **A matching firm exists but nobody has claimed it** — click **Claim this firm** next to it. LeyApp records your claim and an administrator reviews it. When it is approved you become the firm's owner automatically. - **A matching firm is already owned by someone else** — you cannot create a second copy. If that owner is your colleague, ask for an invite code. If you believe the claim is wrong, open a dispute from the firm page and attach evidence (CIF/NIF, bar letter, firm-domain email). ## Step 6 — Fill in the firm details Only the **firm name** is required (2–100 characters). Description, city, phone, address, website and founding year are optional and you can edit all of them later from the firm page. Click **Continue** to create the firm. The moment the firm is created you are added to it as **owner**. The success screen offers to take you straight to verification — you can do that now or come back later. > **Warning** > If your firm name looks very similar to a well-known firm in the directory, LeyApp still creates it but keeps its public page **private** until verification is approved. This protects real firms from impersonation. Complete verification and the page goes public automatically. ## What you can do as owner — right away Ownership is a role inside the firm, not a new account type. Your public lawyer profile and search card now show the firm as soon as it is verified. From the My Firm page you can immediately: - **Invite colleagues** by email, shareable invite code or bulk list. New members join as *Member*; you can promote them to *Admin*. - **Set branding** — logo, banner and brand colour are inherited by every member's public profile. - **Choose policies** — pick the solo, small-firm or large-firm template and adjust what the firm can see about each lawyer's bookings and revenue. - **Waits for verification:** the trusted badge on your public firm page, the embeddable firm widget, and the firm link on your lawyers' search cards. - **Also waits for verification:** single sign-on (SSO) configuration and transferring ownership to another admin. ## Step 7 — Verify the firm Open **My Firm → Verification**. The tracker lists four items: upload the firm's **CIF/NIF** document, confirm an email address on the firm's **own domain** (a 24-hour link is sent to it), upload a **bar association letter**, and wait for the **administrator review**. The review normally takes up to 48 hours. The domain step is optional if your firm has no website domain yet — support can use the bar letter as the trust anchor instead. If a submission is rejected you see the reason on the tracker and can upload again without restarting. > **Note** > A lawyer belongs to **one firm at a time**. If you are already in a firm, the wizard will not create a second one. Use the **Leave firm** card at the bottom of your My Firm page first: members can leave at any time (active bookings keep running for a 30-day grace period), and an owner can leave as long as nobody else is in the firm. Owners of a firm with other members transfer ownership to an admin instead. Once you have left, you can create or join the new firm straight away. ## Did you pick a firm name when you registered? If you chose "I work at a firm" at signup and typed a firm name that was not on LeyApp yet, nothing was created at that point — abandoned registrations must never publish a firm page. Instead, your dashboard shows a **Set up your firm** card and you receive a reminder after onboarding. Clicking the card opens the claim wizard with the name already filled in. The rest of the journey is identical to the steps above. ## Common blockers Most problems on this journey have a one-line fix: - **The My Firm page sends me to Feature previews** — the Law Firm Management switch is off. Enable it and accept the terms. - **"Only verified lawyers can claim a firm"** — your account has no lawyer profile. Finish the lawyer onboarding (bar association and colegiado number) first. - **"This firm has already been claimed"** — someone owns it. Ask for an invite code, or open a dispute with evidence. - **"You must leave your current firm before creating another"** — you already belong to a firm. Open its My Firm page, use the **Leave firm** card, then try again. If you own a firm that still has other members, transfer ownership first. - **"Too many requests"** — the wizard allows a handful of attempts per hour.
